Clayton

Something along the lines of this Rodelinda was an abridged performance of Cavalli's "La Calisto" at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore a couple of months ago. Staging was also minimal, and the story was updated to make the gods out as a mobster family (which turned Juno into a Mafia "Donna"?). However, the student singers inhabiting their roles so well and the excellent student baroque ensemble (complete with theorbos) made this Calisto one of my memorable operatic experiences this season.
