I received an email last night from Opera Australia's Philip Moore about a fundraising concert taking place next weekend for the seriously ill Jared Pritchard, whose mother works in Opera Australia's wardrobe department. Philip writes:
Jared suffers from a potentially life threatening illness condition called Arteriovenous Malformation, and at this point in time his only treatment option is surgery that is not covered by Medicare. To assist the Pritchard family meet Jared's mounting medical expenses, some of OA's Artists are holding a benefit at The Vanguard (42 King Street, Newtown) on Sunday September 13 from 12-4pm.
At this point the Artists appearing are Cheryl Barker, Jacqui Dark, Kanen Breen, Jud Arthur, Annabelle Chaffey, Clifford Plumpton, Emma Pratt, Nick Christo and Adrian Tamburini with Simon Kenway on piano and Andrew Wilson on cello.
Doors open at midday with showtime at 1pm sharp. A wide variety of bar foods and gourmet pizzas are available at pub prices. As The Vanguard only has a seating capacity of 150 the event is a unique chance for opera lovers to see some of their favourite stars in an intimate, relaxed cabaret style setting.
Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased via email from Philip (philip DOT moore AT opera-australia DOT org DOT au) or by calling (02) 9250 7448.
It's perhaps worth noting — although I hope it won't affect anybody's inclination to attend — that, in keeping with the venue, most of the repertoire on offer will be musical theatre/jazz, with only a couple of operatic selections. With such singers on the bill, though, it's guaranteed to be a fantastic afternoon's entertainment, and you'll be doing your bit to help support Jared and his family during this incredibly difficult time. So please, Sydneysiders, consider coming along next Sunday afternoon to support this very worthy cause.
