I was up far too late last night, doing I know not what, and it suddenly hit me — I'd completely forgotten this blog's sixth birthday. Yes, believe it or not — I still can't — Prima la musica has lasted more than half a decade without even a single hiatus. I think it's a milestone worth marking, however belatedly. And seeing as, way back on that very first day, one of the reasons I gave for starting an opera blog was that nobody other than the ether wanted to hear me "rhapsodise about Cecilia Bartoli as Donna Elvira", what better way to celebrate the occasion than with Cecilia Bartoli as Donna Elvira?
So here she is, in the Zurich Opera production conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Six years ago, I knew practically nothing, and had no idea what an unusual tempo this is. Now I can hear how very slow (and how very Harnoncourt) it is, but it really doesn't matter; I love this as much now as I did then.
