The latest e-News from Melba Recordings contains the following Paragraph of Glory:
Next month soprano Cheryl Barker will be in the studios with Guillaume Tourniaire and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra to record a Tribute to her teacher, Dame Joan Hammond. The repertoire comprises arias and songs the great Diva loved to perform, including Elle a fui, la tourterelle from Les contes d'Hoffmann by Offenbach; When I am laid in Earth from Dido and Aeneas by Purcell; Glück das mir verblieb from Die tote Stadt by Korngold.
Excuse me while squeal with childish delight. This is just the best news ever. I mean, just those three arias they've mentioned — or in fact, just one of those three — would be pretty squeal-inducing, but a whole CD? Clearly Santa has been getting my letters. Who knows how long we'll have to wait for it to be released, but in the meantime I know my imagination will be running wild wondering what other treasures will be included. Operagods, if this is my compensation for denying me her Tosca, then well done: we're definitely even now.
